I'm really having trouble getting the tank to drop out from the chassis. Have just spent 2 hours trying to force, stamp, smack and prise it outwith my Dad but to no effect. How the hell does the bugger come out? We haven't taken the floor up (but everything is loose and undone), it just keeps getting stuck.

Thanks for any more advice!

what end of yer dad did yerr use? either way it dint matter, make sure all the pipes are orf and that the filler neck int sticking , then instead of using yer dad try a crowbar or other metal lever

cheers Slob,

The lip on the side of the tank just wont drop down the side of the chassis rails. Don't know what we're doing wrong

The thing is the lip of the tank sits above the chassis rail so you have to tilt the right hand side of the tank down, this causes the top right hand corner bit of the tank to foul against the sill. If you think getting the old un out is hard wait till yer try putting the new un in,cos you won't want to damage it.

We've done it! :D

Managed to get the old tank out with a bit of brute force and the new one went in quite a bit easier actually (didn't take the floor up). I just put the back end in first and then jacked the front up. it lifted the car a little but but it eventually "popped" into place! New stainless steel nuts and bolts and a coat of waxoyl on the bugger too so all is well that ends well.

Thanks very much for the help and advice!
Just hope that I wont have to do that again.

PS. Just out of interest, is it easier or harder than replacing the fuel tank to take the gear box out or replace the clutch? (just for reference sake)

Cheers

Fathers lost a couple of fingers though.

Gearbox an transfer box is a piece of **** compared to the tank, mine dint go back in owt like as easy as yours.

Hehe, no neither of us have cuts or bruises. My Dad banged his head on my door on one occasion  We managed to get the tank in almost straight with the lip half up the side of the chassis and I could see that it was right back to the two mounting points and it had cleared the seat box so up it got jacked and in it went
