OK, I'm going to really put the cat amongst the pigeons now. Feel free to disagree...

If Greenpeace are so keen on "clean" and "efficient" energy sources, why won't they start promoting nuclear power?

I've lived near 2 nuke power stations (Trawsfynydd, and the Wylfa) during my lifetime. From my experience, the cancer rates among their employees were no higher than the national average, both power stations are situated in the countryside, surrounded by a wealth of HEALTHY wildlife (you should see the trout which benefited from the warm water at Trawsfynydd's man made lake!!!). I'd sooner live in a nuke power station, than within one mile of a gas, oil, or coal power station.

Chernobyl was unfortunate, and killed thousands. But that was a plant, built to communist Russian standards (they may have been the first spacemen, but not big on health and safety). And yes, you can make some pretty mean bombs using nuclear energy. But lets not lose sight of the benefits of this stuff. There is no smoke, and the bi-product can be safely disposed of in underground caves, lined with lead.

We've had this technology for more than half a century. If the plants built in the 1950s ran through their productive lives without killing us all, then I'm sure that today's standards will make the new generation of nuke powerstations even safer.

Oh yes, a landrover link... My mate's dad works in the now decommissioned Trawsfynydd power station. He has a Landrover.

Greenpeace wont be satisfied until we're all riding round on bamboo bicycles, eating nothing more than a Quorn mixed grill and each and every one of us no heavier than eight stones.
They're gonna have a job with me, all 19 stones of flesh eating Land Rover loving FAbricator/Welder. GO AHEAD HIPPY, MAKE MY DAY.

If yer say so then I must be. Tell you what though Slob its a bloody handy occupation what wi Landy repairs. The wage aint fantastic for saying we're all time served at our place but the Gaffer is more than reasonable when you ask for materials for private projects (Landy surgery).

Regards WP

i wasn't trying to say otherwise wes, i know its bloody handy craft to have at your finger tips. i've not long finished welding myself a new chassis (well you'd think so to look at the amount of new x-members and patches that are on it)
when i started it ,it was a case of 'ach! its only a few holes,' when i finished it was a case of 'i wish i'd bought a new un.'
i work in a small engineering workshop( sometimes) and once the boss found out i could weld he rushed out and bought a stick welder, which i havn't used in years, not since i got me mig. so i tend to bring the welding work home with me unless its real simple stuff.
enought of me going on i think
cheers slob

Sorry Slob, I think I got the wrong choice of diction in my last reply. I know what you mean when it comes to people discovering your engineering ability regarding "Nailing ferrous and non ferrous material together". Sometimes its a sinch but other times it can be a bugger when yer chasing lacey holes around with yer welder.
If I'm doing a chassis job and it's obviously "thin" I drill a series of 3mm dia holes working outwards from the repair area. This gives me the opportunity to decide on the size and shape of my repair plate safe in the knowledge that I can get a full penetration weld all the way round also covering my drill holes.

Regards WP.

huh! huh! he said" full penetration" ..i think my chassis is about 95% filler wire and 5% waxoyl. oh and guess who forgot to change the grinder wheel from a stone cutter before attacking the rusty bits.

cough (w*nker) cough

somebody needs to slap the guy that did that research.

What about Easter then, all that chocolate....

Or Halloween then, those poor Pumpkins suffereing at the hands of children.....

what about all the paper, electricity etc that went into the research and getting it out to people ( see there goes another 5 trees just typing this)

we need a sticker for the greenies....

this 2cv is pig ugly
no matter where you park it
it's an eyesore
please replace it with something
more pleasing to the eye

Sorry if it's a re-post but

Did you know the average Cow produces more Green-House gases annually than a Range Rover does?

Howdy, why don`t we support the greendicks and f#*ck for the rainforrest during this whole winter,...could save a lot of enegy?
The Norseman

Yes!!,...we have no bananas,...
