have just joined the ranks of fools buying a freelander, 2002 2.5 kv6, knew "sweet felicity arkwright" about them, saw the ad., saw the price, saw the wagon and after 4 weeks have seen the light ! why oh why, 30,650 on the clock, could i go wrong? dam right i could & did, coolant going missing, call the guards, air lock? no such luck, leaky pipe, not on your life, after joining this site now I know, they look grand on the surface, BUT UNDER NEATH they are bad.

Carramba!! For a minute I could have sworn that you said you bought a KV6? That would have been a real silly thing to do!!

Holy cow!! Just read the post again and it appears that you really did buy one... Oops!!

Did you buy it from a dealer? Please say that you did and I will give you soooooo much advice on how to deal with your problems. If you bought it privately you am in big trubbs...

Cheers

I dunno - these peeps that are biased against the freelander!

consider yoself chastised

Down loaded the RAVE manual as advised, all 500 odd pages plus nice pictures, easy to follow the way the pipes run, cleared all the rubbish off the top of engine, looked down saw pool of coolant, closer look, saw that the thermo., housing was split on the join, is this another of the common faults or a new one? bought new thermo., had a good look at it and removed the the thermostat, fiddley but managable, so far the temp.,remains stable & no loss of coolant, slightly higher MPG i suppose but what the hell, however am now creating more probs in the future? mind you i'll get shot of it ASP .

As you have fixed the leak what's your problem ?
I would have replaced the pipe to the water pump and the elbow, as they are the same plastic and leak from the 'O' rings just like the thermostat housing. Ran mine with rad weld for over two years before I could be bothered to fix it.

I'm trying to work out if that comes under the heading of a very brave or a very stupid thing to do.:D :D :D

Yer, I used it as I was taking it to France the next week, and as it 'cured' it I sort of got into the 'if it ain't broke don't fix it mode', then forgot about it untill it leaked again about a year later. Then used it again, lasted for another year by which time the cam belts needed changing so I did the lot in one go.!!!!!
