Stripped the box out of the Disco last weekend to replace thye rear main oil seal as what was once a small leak is fast becoming a flood.
put the box back in (on my own I add) and the Foooking thing is leaking just as bad.

Two option,

1, I didn't fit it correctly (any tips out there as to the correct procedure)
2, It's something else. Have changed the cam cover seal & sump gasget already.

The leak is coming out of the wader hole in the bottom of the bell housing so it is definetly coming from somewhere inside the bell housing and not out.

To make matters worse the Fuel pump has started leaking and the power steering system has come out in sympathy. All jobs which are stopping me from getting on with the welding to make the old girl fit for the MOT.

The smile on my face is starting to slip a bit. Any usefull recomendations out there?

It looks as if you didn't fit the rear main seal correctly. That's the only place the oil can come from out of the wader plug. Sorry about that.

The fuel pump you will have to change.

Power steering can be a problem, we normally fit new stuff as the recon kits don't work. Expensive, though.

No wonder you are not smiling. You can of course fit the wading plug for the MOT and take it out afterwards ;)

Funny you should say that as I have fitted one just to stop dropping oil all over the drive:)

The seal was fitted from the front in the normal manner, but I have since seen something which suggests I should have removed the bell housing, fitted the seal and then replaced the Bell housing over the top?

I had my engine rebult a while ago. I then noticed it leaking so investigated furthur, it was leaking out the bell housing aswell. Rang the garage that did the rebuild, they said it will either be rear main seal or the seal on the transfer box (Think its the transfer box that sits next to the bell housing!) any way which ever box it is they said it might be a seal in there that sits next to bell housing. Mine turned out to be rear main seal, but it could be possible that the box seal has gone.
Hope this helps
