Cold weather is here and I was wondering if anyone has any electrical knowledge? My TD4 has a FBH, without spending a fortune I would like to make it remote control or timed is it possible to do anything with either one of these? Single Channel Wireless Remote Control Kit=
or a timer not looked but I'm sure maplins may have one!
Limited electrical knowledge so if it is possible does anyone havestep by step instructions?
Appreciate any help!
 
yu will have to excuse my iggerance here - but i assume the fbh is to heat the diesel engine quickly to help combustion in cold weather.

If this is the case - why not have it controlled by a thermostatic switch, run through a relay which is only energised by the ignition.
Dead simple to organize and relatively cheap....

All you need to start the heater is +12v into pin 3 & pin 1 on the 6-pin connector of the FBH. (The pins are even marked with their numbers!)

Pin 1 = outside temperature switch (open above ~5 deg C, closed below)
Pin 3 = +12v input from the timer switch

If the 'remote control' kit outputs a 12v signal when it is activated then this is ideal, if not then you'll need a relay to turn on a 12v supply.

As far as a timer switch goes.... you can pick up a brand new genuine webasto timer switch from ebay for about £30. Is it worth bodging something together when they're this cheap?


Important point - DON'T try to switch the main 12v supply to the FBH (the two pin connector on the side). The FBH has a very specific cool-down sequence that it runs through when 12v goes off pins 3 & 1, if you kill the power to the heater then it won't cool down properly (or last very long!)

Hi guys!

The old man is after fitting one of these timers into his disco 3, hes got a Webasto Thermo Top 'V' with 8 pins. Would this timer work??

Isn't the Thermotop 'V' the brand new one?? I can't find any circuit diagrams for one, but I can't see any reason why it wouldn't work. I'd guess that it'll work the same as the 'C' - one pin of the connector will be a 12v trigger line, when 12v is applied then the heater fires up, when it's removed then it shuts down.

All the timer modules do is output 12v when the programmed time is met, the heater does the rest.

Thanks James, my problem is i dont know which wire is which on the 8 pin plug. (Thermo Top 'C' has a 6 pin plug)
