Hi all
Just after some advise, i have just got rid of my defender and replaced it with a 1998 300tdi disco! It has a couple of faults but the thing i could do with some help on is the rev counter, it is all over the place when driving like there is a faulty connection somewhere! Is this a common fault with an easy fix????
Cheers Graham

Hi

I have the same disco. I had the same problem and then it stopped working all together.

The previous owner had had the alternator changed renewed but hadn't refitted the heat refelctor onto the back of it. The result being that over a period of time the heat from the manifold melted the back of the alternator.

Check the wiring going into the back of the alternator and check the heat reflector is in place.

I had to replace my alternator in the end.

Hope that helps.

Hi if you look on back of alternator there are 3 wires and 1 wire a small wire is probably connected to a spade connector not eyelet,if its got a black looking bit on it remove it and just replace with a round connetor refit and it should work ok this is quite a common problem hope this helps tiga.
