Hi,
Yesterday I got in the car to find the handbrake stuck on, drove it about a bit and hit drum with fine tuning hammer, still not free, took drum off all looked ok and moving , put it back together and readjusted and it's still on the brake handle won't go down and I can see the cable flexing as it goes thru the hole thus pushing the handle backup I have adjusted the brake to not function and decided to try a new cable???? That's the first prob,

The second is does a 200 tdi bumper fit a 300 tdi, as leading from the above, iparked outside my gateway in a way i thought itwould not roll turned round to lock the gate , I left the car running as I also have a temperamental starter motor ,
Then I heard the tyresrun over gravel !!!! Made an attempt but as there is no handbrake I thought better of it it was heading thru the fence down a 4th drop on to level and then another 4th drop and gaining speed my land is about 300 m long and goes down about 30 ft , and is an orange orchard, amazingly as it shoots of on it's own getting faster and faster it shoots between a dozen or so orange trees which are only as far apart as the width of the car ,
Finally goes straight thru the large very wet veggie patch and finally smashes centrally into an orange tree,
My friend and I just looked on in amazement,

Took a few hours to dig it out and get some steel grid under the wheels , but eventually got it out just gunned it back out the way it came,

I have got the front back into some shape and looks ok minus the. Bumper and abs a bar,

Quite an adventure really,, anyway I know where I can get a 200 tdi bumper , are they the same as the300 tdi?? If not I was thinking of using the intact brackets and making one!!

And any advice on the handbrake

when you adjust brake at drum you have to adjust cable under hand brake lever to remove slack otherwise cable will break eventually

Hi,

Sounds like a siezed cable. If you have a bad earth, they will earth along the handbrake cable, and melt the inner lining, leading to a jammed cable. I had this happend on my 300Tdi Disco.

It could also explain your poor starting.
Cheers!

That sounds right , the bad earth was from chassis to starter, nice one Graham!!
Its all well buying new to replace , but some things you need to make sense of before repairing.
