I am thinking of buying a 1996 Range Rover DSE 2.5 Auto with very low milage (only 65k) but the owner has told me that there is a fault with the heater/control flaps.
He is prepared to knock about £500 off for this fault.

Is it difficult and expensive to fix?

Is there anything else I should look out for on this model of car?

Any help greatly appreciated.

how much is the rangy mate,if he will knock 500 quid off it must be a fairly dear p38.

could be a right pain to fix, both with time and parts

unless it is very cheap leave it alone

i would sooner buy one with a blown engine or gearbox than that fault
at least you know what you are getting into with those

I recon I can get it for £3500, Its a 1996 Range Rover with geniune 64k milage and has full service history and all the MOTs to prove it.

It is immaculate outside no rust, scratches or dings and has been well looked after.
The interior drivers seat has a bit of wear and a small tear in the leather but he said that they would get that repaired before thaey sell it.

I went to look at it last night and tried the Heater, you can here the fan running but no air comes out of the vents!

Also the Central locking does not work on the passenger door.

Apart from those 2 faults its OK and I like the fact that its only done 64K.

Its a Dealer that is selling it.
What do you think.

Dealers are not daft, but on the other hand they don't know everything. The official line on fixing the blend motors is about 8 hours. My local LR man dealer charges £120 an hour. I make that £960 + parts. Armed with this information, negotiate £1000 off and then fix it yourself using information on here from all the guys that have done the job for a fraction of the cost.

Blend motors £30-40 each on ebay, can be done without taking whole dash out. have done drivers blend motor in about 2.5 hours-bastard but possible. Then needs test book to set properly.
Also housings on heater box distraught and trap flaps.

if Fanatic has done it before, and knows how to do it - offer him £200 to help ya - you save money, Fanatic makes a buck. Its always good to have someone that has done the job before to help you. Simples:D.

There are three blend motors drivers side/passenger side and distribution blend motor.
Mine failed with the drivers side on hot. This Is how I managed to get to it.

Check EKA code works
Disconnect battery
remove dash clocks
Appropriate size spanner,1/4 drive socket and ratchet, screwdriver bit and insulating tape.

What you do is use the tape to make screw driver bit stay put in socket-loosen distribution blend motor 2 screws. Take socket off ratchet and in fingers undo screws.

Drivers blend motor is a bitch-screw driver bit and spanner-use tape to secure it-crack off the two screws-then put screw driver bit in socket and undo.
I cut old blend motor off and crimped wires to new one.

Refit

So are you saying that blower works-but no air distribution or no blower function

Hell why not, I've even one new spare blend motor(part numbers say they were all the same)
Providing I'm available and we agree on when.
Nothing like bit of fun, it will work but needs test book to set completely.
Also Make sure the EKA CODE WORKS BEFORE HAND

EKA is code on a card or available from main dealer-allows for bypass of immobiliser if fob flat. The blend motor stall positions are setup on computer.
I can fit, but you will need it on testbook to ensure long term reliability
