Hi, my friends 1.8 Freelander fans are not comming on in traffic causing it to overheat.

Phoned LR and there is no thermo switch on the rad apparently.

Quick search said temp sensor, but I'm confused.

What do I do to get these working? They come on with AC.

Thanks! :)

Download the Rave from the gen Q's and A's bit and read up on the theory of operation - then yu can start fault finding.

:welcome: noob - hope yu have a thick skin and a thicker wallet.

:dnfnoob:

OK cheers mate. Will do.

Not mine, my friend tried servicing it and managed to put 8l of oil in it. :D

Lol, took nothing out.

I just drained almost all of it and filled it back up to the required level.

Serviced it today.

I've got the RAVE manual, sorry for being dumb, but I still can't see how the fans are controlled.

Anyone?

Thanks!

Some fans are AC only fans (fact on my old Disco 300 ES with AC), which is why they come on when you flick the switch. However look for a sensor near the thermostat housing (I think) as its the engine temp that needs to direct additonal cooling and an air pocket could affect one on the Rad. Must admit this off the top of a tired head and I seem to remember seeing such a sensor location before. I'll go look at my Haynes later.

what you need is a CTS, which IS located on the thermo housing, they are about £7 from Best Of British
