i have a 4ltr 1998 rr se . lpg conversion.
i want to take the fan belt off to see if the alternator is the culprit of the whirring noise on acceleration.
i need to remove the fan cover.then is there any tensioners to losen?

get a 13(or 15mm) spanner and put it on the nut on the tensioner on the left hand head as you look at it from the front of the car, ease it over to the right and slip the belt off.

you could try the old fashioned method of putting a long screwdriver on it and seeing if you can hear the noise clearer on different parts of the engine!

obviously the louder the closer!
