Hi Guys,

I have an old Fairey overdrive, from before the days of my new Rocky Mountain overdrive. The other day I re-assembled it following "Legs" returning it to me in pieces, not that I hold a grudge!!!

I have found I need a new mainshaft and a couple of other bits that seem to have been bent when "someone" disassembled it during my original rebuild quote. Does anyone know where I could get new parts for a Fairey overdrive? Failing that someone who would be able to turn a new mainshaft?

The plan is to refurb the box as a spare, or sell it. Kinda a fun project.

Cheers,

Rob

Are you anywhere near Rosyth / Dunfermline?

Hi Lazy,

Yup I heard a similar thing, that's why I bought a Rocky Mountain one. I was kinda hoping some vintage car part supplier may have adopted it as a "volume part"... maybe... lol

Hi Lazy,

No mate, not just a simple axle setup, machines splines both inside and outside with a profile from nearly 3" diameter down to about 1/2".. a problem peice! ;) Charles has given me a local lads name though, maybe get one knocked up. ;)

If it wern't for the splines i could have made one for ya, but i ain't got a broaching machine. it may be possible to straiten it if thats all it needs

Dint think they wuz the bits you were after from the description you gave, just remembered seeing them on fleabay in the last couple of days. Like I said, let us know how you get on with the seller tho'. They did look like they might know a bit.

News Discovered this morning

I spoke to Craddocks this morning about an advert I spotted stating they have Fairey Overdrive parts. Apparently they have some, but they hope to get more. When Fairey were sold by Superwinch their equipment was sold to a US firm. This was a few years back. Apparently the US firm just happen to reside in New Orleans. The hurricane decimated the area and theyt have had no parts from them since, although Craddocks understand that there is still an intention to resume supply, they just don't know when!

Good news, in a kinda warped way.... ;)
