I'm posting this update in case other RRC owners find my solution to the problem of use to them.
Careful use of a small flat-bladed screwdriver enables the actual vent (the bit with the flaps) to be eased out of the outer moulding, rotated 180 degrees & snapped back into place, thus achieving the desired airflow direction.
The moulding will then be the original way up & will fit back into the facia aperture correctly.
Or of course you may wonder why I didn't think of that first
