Hi All,

I've recently bought a 2003 Disco 2 facelift TD5 commercial and I'm gradually going through it sorting out the gremlins. Top of the list today is the miserable performance of the headlights on main beam. On dip they're fine but switching to main hardly adds any projection and what there is appears way too high. So there's a gap between the area illuminated by the dipped beam and the vague illumination from the main beam.

The headlights are standard and undamaged and the bulbs all seem to shine brightly enough. Other comments on here suggest that the facelift headlights are better than the earlier ones but the main beam on my tdi 300 ES is far far better.

It's pretty scary driving the TD5 around here without main beam - lots of ponies, donkeys and cows on the road (mainly driving Citroens ? ;)) and I'd like to know what I can do to sort this out.

Should I get a matched set of good bulbs (they're all H7 55W bulbs) or is a decent set of spotlamps the answer ? I don't think it's possible to fit the bulbs in wrongly but I could try to refit them if that's the answer. Recommendations, please.

Many thanks all...

Sorted ! Just fitted a matching set of bulbs ( Philips +50% H7s all round ) and the light patterns are now really rather good. No gaps, good penetration and spread with excellent dipped beam control.

Very icy down here in Hampshire this week - lots of Landies being driven around with smiling faces behind the wheel. Mainly panic on the faces of drivers of "other" cars !
