sorry nodge but it is better than trying to fit 2 cups in when you can not get at the handles

Okay, so the facelift hazard switch has a different amount of pins, different clip etc so is not plug and play like the other buttons.

I have found an idea for the original hazard switch however. if i swap the headlight 4-position switch to the other side of the steering column the hazard switch clips neatly into place on the left side in the hole where the headlight switch used to be. Modifying the big red switch fascia should be fairly easy so it doesnt stick out like a sore thumb.

Have you fitted the double DIN HU in yet? I like the idea, even if I keep mine standard (it's all the original beige colour, with contrasting teal plastic - part of the appeal of the earlier cars for me!)

Not yet, it's a christmas present from the family so have to wait until christmas day

At least it's only till Christmas to wait. If I asked the wife for a lovely stereo. She'd say why put a good stereo in that old thing. Referring to my 05 Freelander!!

Thanks for sharing krisboats!!! Without frame I got all parts in (fortunately I have a 3D printer). I still have to get the hill switch, I have to modify the hazard switch and I have to get a new stereo, since the current one is a really bad China-trash-thingy. I couldn't have done it without your posts! I've added a pic from before and after.

When I fitted pre-facelift leather seats into my post facelift TD4 I took the switches with the seats from the pre-facelift. They are totally different and incompatible. Don't know about the rest of the switches.

The switches from the airco and the other heating switch are the same, the one of the rear window heating is different, but I could fit it by removing the rims on the back with a small chisel. I don't have seat heating, so I am not sure whether that would work for those switches too. Putting the old switches back when the rims are removed shouldn't be a problem, if you wanted to.

I like the colour the horrible silvery parts have been painted. Looks very nice.

The actual switches are the same though, some have the locating tabs in different positions but you can literally just pop the front switch fascia off the facelift version and fit it to the old switch. It helps if you have a bunch of switches from a broken car like i did as you can just mix and match till you find the switch with the correct plug socket to fit the existing wires and then worry about which fascia it needs afterwards.

This is how it ended up, hazard switch next to steering wheel and all switches etc moved over. Pretty sure one of the two switches on the left without a fascia on is a heated seat switch that i never got round to buying the seats for.

That's looking good. I have wondered how easy it would be to fit the climate control system from an MG ZS180. The mechanical SZ heater controls are virtually the same the the FL1. So it looks like a possible modification. Something for me to look into in the future maybe.
Nice work on your installation though

How did you get your get your hazard switch looking so good? Mine is the old (too big) one, to use it I have to pull the switch out of the dash

+1 what colour is that?

It is a spray can of Motip matt black, because I didn't like the gold colour.

If you pull the red plastic off the actual switch you can cut it in half. I actually cut about 5mm out the middle of it and cut the ends off. I then got a glass chopping board and some wet and dry and sanded each of the two remaining halves perfectly flat before glueing them back together with strong superglue. The two wings on the sides can be cut off and sanded as well. Ends up making it a lot neater and dropping the height by 5-7mm kept it nice and flush.
