Hi all,

Does anyone know whether putting the facelift centre console (Radio surround and heater controls) in a pre facelift vehicle is a straight swap? I.e no changes to the wiring

I know the hazard switch will need relocating but not bothered about that.

TIA

Yes it's possible to fit it. However you'll need to rewire all the switches. How many would depend on what you have in the current console.

Are the connectors different then?

I know I'll have to move the window switches to the armrest which I will just involve extending the wires.

Here's all the switches fitted to my console.

I can't remember what the earlier connectors are like, but it's possible they are different. You'd need to check that out.
The hazard switch will be an interesting one to move, as the position for it doesn't exist on the earlier dash.
You'll end up with lots of blanking plates in there if you don't have the items the switches control.

Ah I wouldn't be putting the cupholer in at the top of the dash. So it's just the switches round the heater controls that I'm wondering about (so a/c, re circulation, and heated rear screen) and whether those 3 switches use the same loom as the old one?

The hazard switch I'll mount elsewhere.

I'll have 3 switch blanks as I don't have a heated front screen or heated seats

You could possibly mount the hazard switch into the HFW hole. Trimming the blank to make it look neat.
I'll see if I can find a picture of the plugs.

That had crossed my mind actually!!

That would be a great help. Cheers.
The connectors look similar. You would just need to check the pin out and the position of the keyway. All these types of switches have keyways to prevent accidental mis-connection.
Here's the design in general though.

I'm not sure the wiring needs to be changed. I looked into this a while back and if I remember correctly the switch bodies are the same for pre and post facelift, but the front bezel is different. If correct you could simply swap the bezels over and use everything you've already got.

Check though, my memory can be unreliable...

I think you are right there. The switches look the same. Only the face plate is different. So it is possible to make something work without to much messing around.

Cheers guys. Yeah that's how it looks to me, looks like they just rotated the switches round and put black fronts on them.

Looks like I'll be ordering the parts soon then!

the worse thing about the face lift model are those useless cup holders in the middle know I have found some cups that just sit on the top but this is what I found them useful for

chris off of here has been doing it recently, ill see if i can give him a prod, looks pretty straight forward but theres a few bit you may not think about

Warren pointed me this way. This was my job for this week just gone. It's actually shockingly easy, but there are bits you wouldn't see coming.

Just grabbing photos for you now.

First off, upon removing your centre console you'll quickly notice that your pre facelift isn't the same shape as the facelift version. Not too worry... landrover simply cut the middle tabs off the prefacelift then riveted this bracket on top. So go get yourself a donor car to drill the rivets off. I used a 5mm drill bit and some m5 nuts/bolts to bolt mine on.

My starting dash. Looks **** and i wanted a double radio so out it goes.

The heater tabs need cutting off on the pre-dashboard and two slots need cutting into the top for the retaining clips of the facelift centre console to clip into. It's missing on these photos but there are two guide stubs on the facelift bracket that need drilling just under those slots. If you look on the back of the fascia bracket it'll be clear where they go.

Once cut and drilled bolt your fascia on.

Heater controls are basically the same so just wire in your plugs (lights and fan speed) as the connectors are the same. The dial cables just slot on and clip in same as your old heaters.

At this point you'll look something like this....

so now you need to rehouse your switches. I shoved my electric window switches into the centre armwrest as i only have eleccy front windows. My sunroof broke so didn't bother extending that one and rehoming the switch. The rest of the facelift switches, fogs etc are around the prefacelift instrument panel so that leaves AC and heated glass etc. Luckily... this all fit into the facelift centre console. Landrover cheaped out again and used exactly the same switches... with a different button on the front of the switch. Only one to rehome will be the hazard one and i'm going to be working on that this week. I think i'm going to buy a facelift switch though and have it centre of the dashboard like the facelift does though. should be nice and easy.

So thats that really, you can do it very easily indeed.

Thanks really detailed and helpful.
Just in case I can't find that plastic frame is it possible to fit the bits without it or is it a must?

Thanks again

You either need that or a way of bolting the heater controls in the right place. you could probably make one out of wood or 3d printed as it isnt hugely complex.
