Got Fairey free wheeling hubs on my lightweight that i need to remove. I have taken the screw out the cap and undone the bolts but nowt much is moving .I get the feeling i need to remove the cap and there will be a bolt to undoo ????? I have tried prising cap off but dont want to force it as its only alloy. Thanks in advance .

Do not try to prise it off yet!! I am assuming that the Fairey free wheeling hubs are the same trhoughout the years so someone correct me if I am wrong...

When you take the screw out of the cap you might notice something under the that looks like a plastic washer. This is not infact a washer, it is the end of a seal that goes all the way round the casing which needs to be pulled out the hole.

From what I have read sometimes these can be brittle and snap off when you try to take them out. Plus many people think the bit they see under the screw is a washer and prize that out breaking it away from the seal, leaving the seal impossible to get out. In which case, good luck with the hammer I guess!

Hi, let me have your email address and I will forward a pdf file on fitting FWH, obviously removal is the opposite
Basically leave the bolts in place, remove the screw and gently lift the plastic washer, its actually a "worm" that holds the cap in place, Slight pressure on the cap as you pull the worm out eases the action. Once this is out the cap releases and the actuator comes apart, then remove the drive flange by undoing the bolts, job done:clap2:

Been away for a few days so a belated thanks chaps i have got them off now . never seen a set up like thar before with the plastic tab.
