Will the y pipe from a 3.5 rrc fit a 3.9 rrc

.
Is there much difference between the 3.5 and the 3.9 exhaust manifolds
and exhausts apart from the twin rear pipes on a 3.5 and single on the 3.9.

the 3.9 has bigger plumbing at the back of the y, manifolds same.

The Y section is also a different shape on 3.5 compared to 3.9.

3.5 Y join in the middle is a little offset to one side, where-as 3.9 is more symetrical.

I could do with replacing the Y section on my daily driver if you find a good/cheap supplier?

if yours is a 3.5 theres one on ebay for £12 buy it now. if its a 3.9 ill let you know if i find any good prices.

Hi Gents,

Sorry to jump in...

Are the differences only that this is how they were made or are they significant.

I have had my 90 converted from 3.5 to 3.9 but did not change the exhaust.

Would this cause any performance issues?

nope i just feel the rover v8 is a bag of ****e compared to what you could get....... the most your reasonably going to get out of a rover V8 without supercharging it or going for a TVR derived one is 300hp and that will cost you serious money!!! for half what it would cost to get a rover V8 to that you could fit a chevy LS1 with 350hp and 370 lb ft of torque (out of the box)

nope just someone who see's the rover v8 for what it is.....a buick cast off from the 50's they didn't want it and someone from rover bought the design

btw the LS1 can be found brand new as a turn key crate engine for £6k or if your industrious you could buy an accident damaged vehicle with one in and break it and nearly get the engine for free!

other variants of the LS lineage have more horsepower and can in some cases be found easier the LS2 can be found the the vauxhall monaro and has 400hp..... and as its a vauxhall there will soon be plenty of them filing the scrap yards

why would i want to do that? it doesn't really matter which exhaust that is fitted to the engine any performance or efficiency improvement will be extremely marginal, i was giving options for real power and efficiency gains(ls1 would bring approx the same fuel efficiency due to better design........

YES IT DOES!!

fitting a 3.5efi y piece to a 3.9EFi simply wont go on FFS!...the feckin pipes wont line up for one mate!:doh::doh::doh:

You'd have to change the complete system n a few other things in order to fit a 3.5EFi system on a 3.9EFi...though the std manifolds are the same....now, does that explain?

Just to add a little thing to this. You can get a twin exit for the 3.9. Standard box not boy racer job. Got one on my brown RRC. God knows where you get them from though

and another thing, not sure if its commonplace but i have a 1 piece downpipe and y pipe on my 3.5 disco

bolts to the manifolds and goes all the way to the centre box flange 1 piece

i found it on ebay, not sure as above if its commonplace or what, it was genuine land rover, must have been a modern reproduction but i think its a much neater solution.

only paid 25 for it new secondhand, wonder what the new cost is?
