Afternoon all,
Just finished putting a straight through with side exit system on me genuine 200tdi 90. If anyone is wondering what it sounds like or is thinking about doing it to there wagon this is what it sounds like!! Turbo is boosting 17psi if anyone is wondering about turbo whistle it shouldn't effect the sound I wouldn't thaught.
Cheers for now. ;)

200tdi straight through-side exit exhaust defender 90 - YouTube

tis on my roundtuit list, chop the mid box out and a side exit, leaving the rear on mine, its my family car, a striaght thorough might get a tad annoying on long trips.

Also you got a picky how you did it?

Baught a mid box replacement pipe from ebay is about 50 odd quid. the side exit i made, ive got a thread on how I did it, go on my profile then threads started etc you should find it!!
As for running its great, it's got some good 'rumble' when you plant your foot down. Echos great off walls etc ;)

Whats a non genuine 200 tdi..?

A non genuine would be a discovery 200tdi conversion wich most people do to early 90's with 2.5 n/a diesels etc. only difference turbo is lower down so different manifold on disco. And disco 200tdi run 15psi factory I believe where as defender come out factory on 12psi roughly. I've tweaked mine and is 17psi with fuel pump opened to match it.

My 300tdi is straight through out the rear.
Only time I really notice it is going up hills or if there is a wall on the side of the road.
I love the sound, especially the whistle......................

I've got a 300TDI and I got a Straight Pipe this removed the cat, but i don't get that nice whistle noise you get? Is there another cat to remove? or have 200tdi's have a different turbo/noise?

Sounds great, are those the light guards I sent you I see?

Yes they are! Will give them a strip down and hammerite in next few months! Am thinking I may post some photos up of my wagon show everyone in a thread how its looking and progress etc..

If you've got a straight through you should be getting that turbo whistle, I'm very surprised that you aren't?
300's are generally louder than 200's with straight throughd, and both have good turbo whistle.

Which pipe did you replace, the downpipe, or the mid section, the downpipe has the cat in it, the midsection a silencer (or it does on the 110, think the 90 is the same)

Mine whistles like a bugger anyway, and I've only de-catted, ganna get shut of the mid silencer to get a nicer roar/rumble

Yes fella, standard 2.5" pipe from downpipe to tip!

Ok thanks, I already have the straight through mid pipe so just gotta sort the back out! I just fitted plate to the back rear corners so side exit may not be an issue will probably have to do a normal exit - not really bothered just hope I don't have and issues because of it with brackets or whatever. If you've got any other tips, please let me know :) - What yer use to cut the old box, grinder? Thanks.

Ahh fair enough, cut through the plate on mine. If your side exit-ing it I found cut the hole only just big enough for the pipe to squeeze through with help with a hammer. This will prevent the exhuast rattling around loose. I'm not sure how other people do their side exits but this worked for me.

Well if you want a Normal exit, just cut out the box and put in a replacement bit of pipe and weld in or just clamp in some flexi!!

As for cutting i used a grinder yupp.

My side exit has no brackets on, the last bracket is on the end of the mid pipe, the flexi fits between the rear crossmember plate if you can see the pictures in my other thread?? As its wedged through the hole in the rear quarter it doesn't really need a bracket. The only thing I've done is got a thin piece of old fan-belt rubber (as it basicaly doesnt burn with heat) and wedged it in the crossmember were the flexi runs thru to stop a rattle.

You could build up a clamp around the flexi/side exit if you fancied but I didn't see the need.

Thanks, that does make sense, I guess i'll get searching for a downpipe!
Cheers guys :D
