Exhaust Manifold Bolts

I would stick with original high tensile steel bolts as Stainless are usually 8.8 tensile and the originals are stronger at 10.9 grade.
I used stainless on the exhaust ststem once, gave them a coat of copper grease before assembly, when I came to undo them a couple of years later half of them sheared off.

i'd agree fully with irish, don't mix materials cause they do react and the stainless steel will weld itself in...

didn't even look at the ad i have to confess.

good job to see the heads coming off though (reading other post). definitely not good having finger tight head bolts though. i cracked 3 sockets trying to get 3 of my head bolts off last week!

good luck with the rest

Thanks P38 and irish, ill give them a miss then and get some ordered from my local stealer. Yeah the head bolts were a nice suprise in many respects as after reading some peoples experiences on here I was dreading shearing a bolt or rounding a head off!

Thanks again for all the advice :)

So can I just use any steel bolts? (obviously that are the right size and length) Would you use washers? Maybe those self locking ones?

No reason why not...try and get 10.9 grade if you can. Use a plain thickish washer as opposed to a spring washer as the heat from the manifold could anneal (Soften) it.
The originals do not use spring washers.
When fitting the manifold gaskets, make sure you have them the right way..it's easy to put them on wrong and this causes the port to be partially blocked.

Cheers irish and 71, a few days off fitting them yet but once I hear back about my heads I want to crack on.
