Hey everyone,

The wife's 1996 4.0 P38 needs a new centre section on it's exhaust, any ideas where is cheapest to get one and whether they post such items?

Alternatively, as we have no MOT's here down South, and I'm not bringing it back to the UK at the end of my tour, can I just replace the section with a piece of mild steel pipe and not bother with the box?

As ever, your opinions would be gratefully received.

Find a bit of pipe and make one or

I fitted an exhaust centre piece last weekend, ordered from Island 4x4 as recommended above, great service and a good price too. I think if you remove the centre box and replace with some pipe, the noise inside the cabin may be a bit too much to bear, you would also need to bracket the front of the pipe to help support the down pipes.

how long is left on yer tour? if theres less than a year just put a suitable pipe on it, if more then depending on method of jointing the pipes you might be better with proper kit. the trouble with welding is it doesnt last long on exhausts

Thanks for your thoughts fellas, I think I'll have a look at the usual P38 spares places and get an actual centre box. I have just under a year left now, but will be looking to shift both my P38's on for a reasonable price. I think it's better to have a proper part for it. I wonder if I will be able to get it in my hand luggage???????

the centre section is about £50 plus p&p to a english address.;)

Beware not to leave it too long.

I had a mis section blowing badly. Sounded great so I left it a while - problem was that the hole was in the side of box adjacent to chasis. The excess heat melted the air suspension pipes that run along the chasis in about 3 places. Wiped our my suspension which cost more than the box to fix. The heat shield on the box didnt help.

The joint on the rear of the box has come away. As you say Steve, sounds fantastic but the missus reckons that she has quite a bit of power loss as a result.

I found a mid section on P38 spares for £59 which I might order, they have sent me stuff in the past like rear tailgate lifting struts and a setrvice kit. I'm hoping that they will be able to post the section out to me. Either way, if it's to heavy it will come on the boat instead.

would it be impossible/too pricey to fetch it/em back? i mean how much they worth over there compared to here?

Actually Gav, I'm looking at quite a profit for them. I bought the wife's 4.0 SE manual with 88k on it for £1995 and my 4.6 HSE with 87k on it for £1795. I will be looking for £5500 each or £10k for the 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:eek::eek::eek:

There are only 3 others on the Islands and to honest i would rather take the money and buy another one in the UK.
