Hi all,

It sounds like my back box isn't too long for this world, so I've had a trawl around the web for a replacement back box and there seem to be a range of options.

My current system is non stainless, so do any of you have a recommendation for a reasonably priced, good quality back box for a 1994 model, cat equipped Classic?

Thank you!

I don't know about the classic, but Double S do good stainless systems at a reasonable price, a quick Google would find them and others.

Its that the same Double S that the same Double S that supplied the LRO mag to do a feature on a RRc exhaust replacement, LRO found the pipe bends were in the wrong place therefore LRO has remove the bends and fabricated their own it was lucky that LRO has the use of a fully equipped garage, the job took an extra day so they weren’t happy and said so.

Perhaps you never read the that feature as u “don't know about the classic” but i did being being an owner.

I had two replacement back boxes and one middle box fitted to my RRc all genuine parts after the original failed that didn’t last long.
When my DISCO’s back box failed after 11 years with out any hesitation I fitted a Janspeed stainless cat back system as a replacement, now 12 years old and has never been touched and never will be.

When I had my RR I had a look a three systems at the LR show in Billing,
Double S had very poor and untidy welding, the Rimmer bros item’s welding was not much better and was light weight and then Janspeed which had perfect and very neat welding and thicker steel, and was fitted with a ‘cherry bomb’ style of back box also stainless, plus the system was just two pieces with flange joints, so not the pushing one pipe into another arrangement and the tightening a clamp to make the exhaust gas tight.

So a perfect instant fit, the hanger points and bend over the axel matched exactly and which took just 3/4 hour in total to fit so I was very pleased :D

As you say, I do not know the Classic, but I have cat back Double S twin rear box systems on 2 P38 diesels, they both fitted perfectly, one has been on for about 7 years now and still looks good:D

I had the same issues as LRO with that system on my own RRC.
That said, it's been on now for years.
All the clamps supplied with it were mild steel & I've replaced them a couple of times. Same with the olive between the front pipes & the front box.
The triangular clamps that hold those two sections together rusted through last year & I altered a pair of stainless steel ones off ebay to fit - something Double S should have done in the first place.

My last 3,5efi had a nice soundtrack after the rear box on my mild steel system fell off (not for the first time, poor design … lack of a rear silencer bracket) & I replaced it with a length of plain pipe.
