Excessive Fan Blowing

Hi I have a 2000 Defender TD5, and i have found that the cooling fan is blowing really loudly (louder than the engine noise), it started after my brother drove it on a long motorway drive. The only thing i can find is the fan cowling is quite loose in one corner but i am not sure if this is the problem. Any Ides
