Thanks for the link, I noticed you had a another bit for the intercooler, haven't seen that on any of the other ebay egr's, is that neccessary and what does it do? Will I have any problems when it comes to MOT time with emissions and all that jazz?

I am new to Landyzone but have picked up from reading loads of threads that you are well respected amongst the landy community. Do you know of any negative affects to the engine, I agree with Discomania that some commitee somewhere has forced this upon manufactureres but can't help feeling that landrover would not of intended for it to be removed, apart from recirculation of the exhaust gases do you know if it serves any other purpose.

Sorry for all the questions, any help would be appreciated

No probs re the link m8.
Regarding the other bit , It is so that people can totaly remove the EGR valve compleatley, it is not nesseary BUT it will help SLIGHTLY with the airflow because inside the valve that is fitted as standard , there is a lump where the valve its self seats.
I sell the pipe for people who want this lump removed for max airfolw as poss.

Regarding MOT no there is no problem with that ,
Vosa ( Vehicle and Operator Services Agency ) MOT peeps in english DONT bother if it has egr or not.

As long as the car is under the 3% emmisions then its a pass.
Landrover had to do something for the new emmisions laws and that is where the egr came from , it also is supposed to help with unburnt diesel and recycle it for further burning, it has its disadvantages as you will have read.

It puts hot air back in to the cylnders
It puts air that has burnt diesel smoke back in
It gets the engine oil dirty sooner
The air that is puts back in has less of an oxygen content
The egr valves fail all the time and cause lack of power

The list goes on

TDI's the best thing to do is just completely remove the lot, solder the copper pipe up and plate the opening on the engine.

The plate alone on the TD5 is very noticible, oh and you use less juice.

Just read somewhere that td5's after 02 were not fitted with egr's at all, is this true? I will open up the bonnet on mine tomorrow and have a look, it's an 03. Thanks anyway Discomania and Bell

No, its not true Eu2 models are also fitted with a vacuum controlled butterfly in the inlet manifold - before the egr valve and the egr feed pipe is cooled by a wrap around heat exchanger with engine coolant going through it.
If removing your egr makes any difference to performance/mpg then it wasnt working properly in the first instance - you would be suprised how little of the time the egr is actually working.
Also remember the inlet manifold is under pressure - up to about 225kpa before the engine ecu will cut output.The pressure sensor is in the manifold after all the "restrictions",egr lump,intercooler etc.So a bit of crud on the manifold walls is not going to restrict output.
A better intercooler and remapping the ecu are the best way towards more performance - leave the egr alone if it works.Read the book if you want to understand why.

I may be wrong but ive never seen an EU2 with the egr water cooled heat exchanger only EU3.

i didnt fit a blanking plate just blanked off pipe from egr noticed a difference

hi guys ,superb link my engine is an eu3 and i want to blank the egr like i did on my 300tdi ,so can the eu3 be blanked with just the small oval plate and leave the pipe on or is there more to it ,cheers phil

If we have the time, we fit a blanking plate to TD5's and remove the pipe. We have had one where the connection to the inlet manifold broke off and set fire to the rubber cover. The real problem is that the EGR valves tend to seize in the open position so the engine is permanently running on its own exhaust. Better to disable or remove it altogether before it breaks.

We don't even bother to tell the owners that we have done this.

hi,i am still unsure as to wether i can just fit the blanking plate on my eu3 td5 as i have read other posts that mention blocking other pipework related to the valve or that the eu3 does not have a egr at all i had a look today but i didnt remove the black cover and i think i do see an egr going to have a proper look in the morning,cheers phil
