:) Hi wondering if anybody has bought an exhaust gas blanking plate and fitted it to thier td5.It is a triangle shaped metal plate which blocks of the exhaust gases entering and mixing with the air in the inlet manafold.By blocking this it is ment to improve the performance or is it just an ebay scam for a tenner. thanks for reading gary.

I havent fitted a blanking plate in a td5 but have recently fitted one in my 300tdi disco and I can say that it really is worth the money. No massive increase in power but definately feels a little more responsive and a lot more smooth.

Must work on the principle of the tdi likeing the cooler air. colder the air the more dense it is, better for combustion.

this must not be a popular thing as only one person has tried it but not on a td5. please reply, this is what forums are all about!

ALL TO DO WITH EMISSION CONTROL best to block it up and help to warm up the global warming thing on a serious note you would probably only see the differance on a dyno as it has already been said your engine likes lots of cold air to burn not hot ****ty exhaust gasses.john

any thing to do with the exhaust runs the risk of seized bolts and studs so be prepaired for this , should be easy if you dont break any . john

thanks all for your replys ive bought one on ebay ,will let you know how i get on .gary

Yes they are very easy to fit.Mine only took 5 mins and I am not the most mechanicaly minded person;)

One tip I can give is to soak the two bolts in WD40/GT85 etc before you try to undo them otherwise they could shear off.

Good luck.I hope you notice as much of a difference as i did.

spud300tdi cheers mate just got my plate through the post this morning and fitted in less than 10 mins definatley agree about the wd40 though i agree the engine does feel a little more reponsive all for £4.50 wot a bargin :)

have now fitted a plate , i notice an improvment to the throttle and it revs higher and goes slightly faster 0-60 could be my imagination but im happy.my plate came with a gasket and some instruction but it didnt say what side you blanked off ,so i did the side nearest the exaust and also i put the gasket to the egr side as i thought the exaust gases would burn it away ,was i right to do this rsvp gazv70

I fitted egr blanking plate a while ago,and to be honest doing that is only half the job. To get the full benefit you need to remove and clean intercooler, and the inlet manifold, plus the pipe that joins them together. You will understand when you see the damage that has been done prior to blanking.especially the inlet manifold. It will be blocked up with soot and carbon therefore strangling the engine.Mine had done 70000 miles and the opening to manifold was 50% blocked up.
Hope this helps
Steve

Cheers Lunepilot.

I took off the intercooler yesterday and removed quite a bit of gunk from its inside. This morning I fitted it back on and it has indeed made a bit of diference to the power.

Hopefully next week i will get time to take the inlet manifold off and clean that too.

Thanks for the tip.:)

Ive just ordered a egr blanking plate, couple of questions.
Firstly, i cant quite see where it fits, i havent got it yet, but i will have by next weekend, so has anyone got or know of any pictures so i can see exactly the position it goes on?

Secondly im gonna remove and clean the intercooler, and connected pipes to manifold. I take it the intercooler is the smaller radiator to the right of the main radiator behind grill on a 300 tdi?

Thanks guys.

Hi Gary,

I was thinking of buying one, how did you get on? does it really make alot of a difference to the performance and do you know if fitting an egr plate has any negative long term affects on the engine.

Cheers Peter

Get them on eBay.

Fitted a TD5 with one last week took about 8minutes. You can be driving along the motorway, with your foot where you would normaly have it but your going 15mph faster than you would have been and it will pick up speed much quicker, I guess good fresh clean air does that!

The old dirty gas does no good what so ever and will have a negative effect on the engine eventully.

Some stupid fool in the government has decided that there department no longer has a purpose, so instead of getting paid off, they decide that engines should have this sort of rubbish in them to make them run nicer!
