Basic tool list for a 2003 110? I have limited lockable storage so can only carry the essentials. Given everyone's experiences, what would you say are the top 10 tools and/or pieces of kit? As sensible as possible please fellas.

You forgot the kleenex

Torch, decent jack, screw drivers, decent sized wheel brace, latex gloves, socket set, spanners, cable ties, mobile phone charger, jump leads, tow rope and shackles.

I think that's what I usually carry

I always carry pliers and some Scotch Lock connectors too..

RAC/AA membership card

and some mole grips

hammer, couple sizes of adjustables, few different sizes nuts and bolts, gaffatape, bit of coiled wire, lil jar with different tubes in, like rtv/jbweld/superglue

NOT matches, as there's been plenty of times I've just wanted to set fire to mine:mad2:

extendable magnet type thing... Paid about 2 quid for mine and its saved me loads of times when ive dropped something.

As i did the wiring in mine, i carry shed loads of spare fuses, a range of wire and crimps. Unhappily I've had to use these a few time while on the road.

Thats mostly the list of stuff I have used to rebuild the whole landy, other than drill and angle grinder

Oh, and you want some spare bolts. Lots of spare bolts

Couple of extra lights. Just coz I bought new ones, and thought I may as well chuck the old ones in the box incase I break one.
Some old screwdrivers.
Disposable poncho!
Some coolant.
Engine oil.
EP90.
Brake fluid.


This is all in a truck cab btw, stored behind my seats. - apart from the highlift which is in the back!
I bought a couple of ex MOD ammo cases, as they're waterproof - and fit quite nicely behind the seats.


All the time I have been driving my landy, the majority of stuff has been used to fix various suzukis and jeeps on the way home from pay and plays! My landy just keeps chugging like a tractor!

If I had to choose two, I'd pick the leatherman, and the socket set.

Dont forget a good torch as well i got one for like 3 quid is LED so super bright and lasts hours. keep it in the glove box.

2 x 9/16 spanners for prop bolts, the proper socket is better.

One of the handiest things I've got is a small 1/4" drive socket set which is great for all the little tiny nuts and bolts you get on a TD5, and all the ones that go into soft alloy components on the engine so you don't strip anything. Doesn't take up much room either. It's useful to have a 52mm socket for the hubs and as well as the popular sizes of spanner I got a 24 x 30mm ring spanner which covers the nuts and bolts on the suspension. Circlip pliers. Small bottle jack which is handier than the one Land Rover gives you if you just want to take one wheel off. It's also good for replacing the ball joint in your steering arm as you can jack the components into place and get the circlip in. They're not really tools, but it is handy to carry a spare fuel filter, oil filter and fan belt, light bulbs that you might need, and a few spare blade fuses in different ratings. Battery charge and boost device. Tyre pressure gauge and tyre inflator.
