Can anyone please help?
I have a 300Tdi Discovery and engine vibration is being transmitted through the body at idling, about half throttle and at another point when the revs get higher. Even when sitting on the drive. So its not transmission noise. I have checked the engine and gearbox mountings and they all look ok. The exhaust is not near the body anywhere, so that cannot be touching and causing it. It is gradually getting worse and is becoming very annoying. It even makes the loose cassette in the player rattle when its not pushed in.
Has anyone else had this problem? Any help would be very much appreciated.

Whats yeh tickover like? Too low and it could cause proper vibrations!!

Otherwise check body mountings onto chassis to tight or failed would cause this.

I am not too familiar with the 300 tdi engine but as a general checkover i would be sure to include the auxilliary belts and tensioners, an old car of mine had such a bad vibe from a worn belt that it shook the alternator loose resulting in it falling off of the car at 80 on the M1, wasnt a good experience!!!!
Also does the 300tdi havea cambelt?? worth checking tensioner and belt there too?
My dads galaxy also recently had the same problem, new tensioner fixed it.
Hope you get it sorted.

I have the same vibration problem and I am being told it is the Flex Plate, I have just changed the flex plate for a good second hand one, I have also changed the torque converter and auto gearbox for good second hand units but all that this has done is move the vibration progressively up from about 1800rpm to now 3000rpm.

Changing the flex plate moved the vibration up the rev range to about 2400rpm and changing the box and converter just moved it up further to where it is now (3000rpm).

I have been advised to buy a brand new flex plate but am running out of money fast, have you fix your vibration issue?

just because the engine and GB mounts look ok dont just assume that they are - the mounts will harden over time and will provide much less dampening than a set of new ones would

I replaced the Engine with a recon unit about 8000 miles ago and fitted new engine, gearbox and transfer box mountings so done think they are hard.

i have a vibration on my 300 tdi but it only happens when pulling away from a junction wit steering slightly turned feels like the gearbox mounting but not sure at all..

sometimes my 300 engine will vibrate badly when you first start 'er up, a little blip on the throttle and back to tickover sorts it out.

Drippy u gone off the track - dont undersatnd - "Z"
Am I thick or u just being obtuse?

Understand wot ur saying - seems to point to something forward of the gearbox. But n this is a big BUT - (even bigger than my ex's) vibration can kick in at certain frequencies/speeds so gonna need some more info - when u freewheel in whatever gear does it happen etc? From wot u said it sounds like it is only a problem under fairly hard acceleration which does suggest a UJ to me as was already stated?

Just a thought - have you got the prop shafts properly phased when you refitted them- 90 deg opposed input and output?

hmmmm,....up bonnet, look at EVERYTHING and make sure all tight, all ancilleries, manifolds, the lot. Then start thinking engine....if it was a OHC that would be a poss, but it aint,so I hope it aint crankshaft....but this is just wild guessing and will probably get flamed right up :mil75:

You're saying its engine vibration so do you get the vibration stood still at 3000? If no, then doubt it will be engine itself, ?
On road vibration at a specific speed could be something as simple as tyre balance - you haven't lost a wheel balance weight, walloped a curb lately or something as simple as that? Vibration is a damn hard thing to track down as often you're convinced its at the front when it could just as easy be at the back!
First thing is to isolate the engine as the cause - even if you have to get it up to 3k revs and slip the clutch to get some power going into it.
