Hi all,

this is a very daft question, but 1 I cant answer.

How can i tell if my freelander has a td5 or di engine?

It has both on the paperwork that came with it.

the engine no is 20T2N, the engine is covered with like a plastic cover, if it helps.

Im just going to do the first service on it, so need to know if anyone can help

The FLs up to 2006 only had 2 diiesels fitted neither were Td5.
The good solid dependable Rover engine and the Td4

20T2N is a prefix, the next letter & digits identify the type, iirc. Age of vehicle would be a big clue though, as already mentioned it should be a 2.0 Di or a Td4 (unless someone's changed it.....)

its a 1999

sorry that was an error, it should say td4 not td5

it does have a turbo and was sold as a td4

It's not a TD4 as most people know it - which is normally used to refer to the later BMW engine fitted from late 1999 /early 2000 onwards I think.

The code 20T2N should refer to the diesel 'Rover' engine as fitted to Rover cars and some Hondas.

Your 99 car should be badged Di or Xdi if it has the Rover engine.

Does it have a yellow plastic dip-stick handle? Look closely at it - if it says in small print BMW then you have a TD4.

If your docs give the capacity as 1994cc you have a Rover engine.
If they say 1951 then you have the BMW engine

Hope this helps.
Have you got an owners handbook and the proper maintenance / service sheet?

Singvogel.
