Hi all
Just looking into this but my plan is when the head gasket goes again on my 1.8 petrol 2004 I'm going to put a better engine in it and wanted your guys opinion on which would be the best but the easiest to fit.

Thanks

How do you mean better? A better K series? A 2004 1.8 has the best factory engine but that can now be improved ;)

Sorry am I being a bit slow what do you mean best factory fitted engine I thought they where a bad engine. I was meaning could I put a td4 in or a V6

Thanks

The K series was pretty much sorted of its woes by 2004. It's not a bad engine, it's just worked hard in the Freelander.
There are ways to fix the engine for good if the HG should fail but in an 04 Freelander it should last pretty well if it's looked after correctly ;)

as above i have seen more head gaskets go on renaults than rovers
if it keeps going then you have a fault that has not been rectified

Peugeot HGs fail with alarming regularity as do lots of wet liner engines. The design of the wet liner allows no safety margin should the cooling system be compromised!
