True he has. I would have thought an old 2 1/4 petrol engine would yield most of the parts you'd need then buy the conrods and pistons new.

The best Land Rover petrol engine is the Rover V8, not the cheapest option, but the whole engine, gearbox and ancillaries from a Range Rover Classic or Discovery would make the neatest conversion.
A V8 Rover would even be nice to drive.
Your biggest problem would be if they moved the goal posts again.

The V8 gives the same or better mpg vs the 2.5p. But a lot more torque and power. Plus an awesome sound track and improved refinement. 3.9/4.0/4.6 is the way to go. EFI or 4 barrel carb.

Hi I have A V8 in my series and with "normal" driving get 20 mpg and that's on a 4 speed series box and you would the option of LPG would the vehicle being dual fuel help.

Aren't 'historic' vehicles ULEZ exempt too?
Neither of mine were, one diesel, one petrol.

Almost all Air Portables will be historic if you are thinking of changing to one. And thus ULEZ exempt.
Petrol is exempt anyway, I was looking for a petrol lightweight if I was going to get one.
Trying to find a 2.5 Petrol but not much luck at the mo.
