Evening,

I'm taking my 2.5 n/a to the garage early next week with a hefty oil leak and excessive crank case pressure. It recently had a cylinder re-bored, a new piston and a set of rings. I have a feeling that the other three pistons are going to need replacing (purely because of the lack of compression), but are they likely to do this under my 3 month warranty?

I am also trying to figure out the various parts that make the piston and seal the cylinder, and how much it could potentially cost. Which parts do I need?

3X Crankshafts @ £200 each, or not?
What else makes up a piston and cylinder!!?

Thanks in advance for any help

mum! the brain dead are awake again

If there is not sound of PISTON SLAP then a set of ridge-dodger rings would probably make all well again for a very long time.

Do you think they re-bored ONE cylinder? BAD scene if they did, because that piston will be oversized, compared to the other three. My advice would be to copmplain about that. It is very poor practice.

But what the Hell if it goes fine?

Green bit across the bottom is obviously the crankshaft (expensive part), blue arm, piston assy.

Yes the brain dead are walking again,

The engine does run fine and ticks over great. As for piston slap, well there is a very slight "clappity, clackity" sound if I listen careful enough. If it does only need new piston rings, will they stop the pressure build up, and will I be able to pull up hills better?

Thanks again!

If the rings are worn the exhaust gasses escape down the cylinder bore past the rings and into the sump. as more gas is forced in the sump pressurises and the oil is forced out of the engine breather and the dipstick tube.

That's the problem I'm having, but rather than coming out of the dickstip tube, it's coming out of the oil filler cap, the oil filler cap breather pipe, between the rocker cover and out of the screws that hold the rockker cover in place.

I really hope new rings sort the problem out!

Iss what I said out of the engine breather. also if ya take the dipstick out of the tube while the engine is running and put ur hand over the tube about 6" above up. You'll see a fine oil mist form on the palm of ur hand.

alright I'll have a go! How long will it take the garage to change the rings? Could they do 3 pistons in an hour?

FFS they av to take the cylinder head and the engine block off then change the pistons and rings and then Put it all back together. You'll be lucky if they do it in a day. nevva mind an hour.
