ACEA A1, B1 or B2 is what rave says.

I'm using A1/B1 or A5/B5.
I have let my self understand that A5/B5 can be used in place of A1/B1.

I don't really know about oils but this is the only one that I could find that met that spec
G-Force GFV050 Semi Synthetic 5w30 Motor Engine Oil A1/B1

Think a1/b1 is no longer a recognised standard.
Mannol oils are pretty decent, I use them in all our cars and some boats to.
It is all to do with the ACEA code, plus of course the viscosity.

I hope Mannol is good, as I’ve got about 100ltrs of it in the garage.:D

I think the td5 handbooks have changed oil specification through the years. I’ve seen some members like yourself post that B2 is also suitable, the handbook for my 2004 D2 td5 says A3/B3 can be used (pic below).

There’s no stipulation as to semi vs fully synthetic in my handbook either.

Further to this, ACEA states B4 can be used wherever B3 is specified.

ACEA A3/B3 Stable, stay-in-grade Engine Oil intended for use in Passenger Car & Light Duty Van Gasoline & Diesel Engines and/or for extended drain intervals where specified by the engine manufacturer, and/or for year-round use of Low Viscosity Oils, and/or for severe operating conditions as defined by the Engine Manufacturer.

ACEA A3/B4 Stable, stay-in-grade Engine Oil intended for use in Passenger Car & Light Duty Van Gasoline & DI Diesel Engines, but also suitable for applications described under A3/B3.

I’m leaning towards a hopefully best of all worlds solution with Smith & Allan Momentum FS 5w40. It’s A3/B4 & VW 505.01 for PD engines - most PD oils are C3 which is a whole different debate.
