Has anyone fitted a drain tap/valve in place of the drain plug for their engine oil? If so what make used and is it worth it. Thank you.

nah you have a drain plug as well.

in this kind of application though i think you would be worried about knocking the valve off.

I suck the oil out from the dipstick tube with one of them oil change pumps on ebay , Works a treat , no more removing shield , laying on your back with oil running down your arm or driveway

Difflock drainplug works fine, have had one on the 90 for years and bought one for my wife's TD4 a few months ago. It can't get knocked off, apart from being protected by the undershield it sits behind the sump and not below it. You can't leave it open by accident, it automaticaly opens as the drain-tube is screwed into position.
The filter is removed by undoing the housing with the correct sized socket, to lift it out of the way you might want to undo the dipstick tube.

36mm socket will undo the top of the filter housing, and allow you to withdraw the paper filter element, unless you are asking how to remove the housing as well ?

You think a valve sticking out from here would be protected??

That sounds like a good idea think I'll give that a try

Apart from the fact the shield has been cut away exposing the drain-plug, the Difflock drainplug points backwards and not down so it wouldn't be any lower than the sump anyway.

Your choice guys but it will be level with or slightly lower than the base of the sump, sticking out from a pretty feeble thread and only protected by a plastic shield. Just don't venture off road!

but whats the point

I'm not sure either. I've only ever used valves on stationary engines with large sump capacities.

it allways makes me wonder why people are prepared to buy unncessary stuff for their vehicles but then fit just pads as discs are an extra £30 they dont want to spend, i suppose its like when i had veggy shop years ago people would haggle over 30p cauliflower and not quibble over £5 bunch of flowers

Quite correct, people should spend money on their vehicles and not be tight when it comes to maintenance or repairs, name and shame those not spending the extra as they are a danger to other road users.;)
Just how did you come to the conclusion that fitting a drainplug means you don't maintain your vehicle properly?
