Engine Number UK check

Hi there,

Messaging from sunny SA. My Td5 110 needs a new engine and a I saw one today from someone who imports them from the UK. He said the engines are all insurance claims that get imported to SA from the UK and they are all 80-120000kms. He didn't have any information about the donor vehicles so I was wondering if I can somehow get the donor vehicles information, most importantly the mileage by doing a engine number search? I've tried the DVLA vehicle search but that you require a number plate... is there a way of getting the number plate information or VIN number from the engine number? Surely it's all on record somewhere.

Any help would be appreciated. Really want this engine but would like peace of mind knowing what it's mileage is before purchasing.

At that sort of mileage with know history I'd refurbish it before fitting anyway...doubt you will get anywhere trying to trace vehicle from number in UK as could have been a replacment itself...

If they won't advise where the engine came from... it may be from one of many LR's stolen each week and broken up for parts, in the uk. I would make contact with the uk police to see if the engine number is from a stolen vehicle. You can talk to them on the web via their 'chat' function. They may help.
