Anyone know whether the engine blanket in this picture is any good? Is it a standard part? I've always been interested in damping the noise, especially at low revs/speeds.

When you say standard, do you mean standard to LR? Its not standard LR part, an aftermarket part, from Halfords or something.

I would be careful with something like that.

Air flow restricions etc...

I'd be concerned with something like that getting caught in the moving parts or as discomania says restricting the airflow around the engine.

Besides it's a landrover, it's supposed to make a noise, put the radio on.

I've taken the standard under bonnet blanket off mine and don't often have any tunes on in the car, i'm quite happy just listening to the engine clattering away, quite a soothing sound I think.

Jon.

Spray the engine compartment with 10 cans of foam fix and start the engine immediately. Run it at 2500 rpm until the foam sets to ensure all moving parts are free.
This really cuts out the noise and helps if you get attacked head on by a Renault
