Hello all,
Havent posted on here for a while (although always come on and have a gander through the threads) mainly beacause i must have one of the good ones (or so i thought!!).
Had very very few problems other than wear and tear in the 12 months of ownership (01 td4) although one problem that i seem to have had on and off for last 8 months is the common power loss at 60-70 and this is what i think is the root of my current problems.
Here goes;
A couple of weeks ago (stupidly) had radio on in car with no ignition while waiting for our lass, car wouldnt start back up so presumed i drained the battery, i switched off radio/heater then tried again and started up ok.
Last Friday took in for MOT and it sailed through, cue praising my beloved freelander to all how little i have had to spend on it etc..(yes, i know tempted fate).
Last Sunday had a drive up to york and on way back, 5 mins after fuel reserve light came on the orange engine management light came on and stayed on. When i stopped to fill up it went off after about 10 seconds.
All week had problems starting up first time, so presumed i needed new battery.
This morning on my way to work it started to judder then the engine management came on and it just died on me, left it and walked rest to work, eventually got a jump start and ok untill he drove off it died again, after leaving it 10 mins and just about to phone rac man it started again, drove to me mates who fitted me a new(er) battery. Started first time off home i went. Went out later started first time, however noticed very little power and could not reach over 30mph up slight hills. Stopped at location, when i started up again, nothing! Eventually, and after lots of smoke coming from exhaust it started but engine man light came and stayed on again, same power loss up hills on way home.
Obviously somethings wrong so taking into garage tomorrow just wondered if it sounded familiar to anyone.
P.S. sorry for long post but wanted to put the ins and outs and paint the picture.

CHEERS IN ADVANCE!!!

Sorry to hear bout yer problem earthling. . . .had a werd wiff porky [ma mutt] un he reckons it sounds like two fings mainly 1= fuel filter 2= fuel pumps ,yer got two low pressure ones on yer gaylander [rear one in tank is favourite] . . . .check out in search its bin well documented , un best oh luck earthling:) :) :)

Cheers Ming for the reply!
Looks like you're spot on with your diagnosis.
Took to garage and hooked up to computer and 4 faults came back all relating to fuel problems (fuel pressure was reading 2.00 bar). Looks like its me fuel pump as when it doesnt start, a quick whack (by hand) gets it going again.
Cant get it done till tuesday, so just driving when necessary i.e. work only! Its cut out a couple of times on me, but after giving the pump a tap its ok again.
Will it eventually just completely die on me or am i ok to drive it the 14mile round trip to work?

Cheers again!

p.s. pumps costing £160.00 just for part, does this sound right and is it a big job replacing it?

Even if it is the pump you would be advised to check fuel filters, especially the one on the fuel pickup in the tank,if that pump is the faulty one that will be sorted, otherwise check it anyway, we have known blockages to cause pump to work harder, even fail because of this.

Ok Cheers.
It did have a new fuel filter put on in december as part of a service, but then again i suppose it can still get blocked or maybe have not been put on properly. So will check that cheers.
