Having just fitted new alternator and everything working as it should,2 days later right hand engine management comes on when revved and goes into limp mode will not achieve above 20 mph I am almost at the giving up stage no idea what is causing problem .Am still a bit knackered from alternator on Sunday everything seems to happen now as I need the old beast to ferry my wife to an from Newton le willows to visit her terminally ill sister. Any body got any ideas of what is happening I would be eternally grateful I afraid to drive any where due to very low speed achievable.

If the engine light is on, then there's a fault code been generated. It's faster to simply read the codes, then mess about trying to find the fault. But there's nothing to stop you checking sensor connections and other simple stuff.
I'd check the fuel rail sensor for corrosion.
The MAP sensor wiring.
Listen to make sure you can hear the low pressure fuel pump/ pumps.

Thanks buddy for your input why are there 2 engine management lights on the dashboard. The landy does not reset after stopping and then restarting, light goes out as it should then as you increase revs light on and it goes into limp mode. Wher e is low pressure pump located thanks again.

I think the facelift TD4 is ODB compliant so you should be able to read the codes with a cheap ODBI dongle - you can buy these online from about 5 quid that use an app on your phone.

Maybe there's someone local to you in Yorkshire who has kit who can read codes. Halfrauds also do a diag service I believe.

As the car is so important to you at the moment, I'm sure the Landyzone International Rescue community could be called upon for help with diagnostics? @blue beasty @The Mad Hat Man ?

Thanks a lot to everyone for their support it turned out to be low pressure pump, I changed it this morning all seems to be well again in landrover land once again.

Could be coincidence, could be it was on the way out and your shiny new alternator gave it a bit of extra power which caused the final failure !
