engine management light

Evening gents the engine light came on today on the wife's td4. There are no symtems it starts fine runs fine sounds fine. There's no smoke, the oils ok. I don't get it!!
Anyone else had this or is it a case of find someone with nano to read the codes. Thanks in advance.

I'm going to go for a problem with the Catalytic converter or DPF or Lambda sensor but code reading will confirm

Daughters Yaris (petrol) had the light on two weeks ago, CAT problem, reset the light and so far its stayed off.

Sister in Laws Antara (diesel) has in on nd hows up as P2002 - Particulate trap below threshold bank 1.

Bit of light reading reveals that this is a soft code, that won't reset with a code reader, the light will go out when the problem is resolved, suggests giving the motor a good run on the motorway to raise the exhaust temp to burn off the crap in the DPF or the DPF might have to be 'regenerated'.

Has anyone local to Stanford in Essex got a Hawkeye or such like that we can read the codes with. I was going to start cleaning sensors tomorrow to see if that makes any difference but even if I managed to solve it by fluke I think the light needs to be turned off by Hawkeye is this correct??
