On my drive to work this morning the engine became very juttery, cut out and the EML came on.

I stripped the fuel rail pressor sensor out and gave it a clean, the engine started first time.

My problem is the engine warning light has stayed on. Is there any way of self testing (I have read if you put the ignition key in position 2 it should do something but not sure what)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's still cutting out : ( I have had it off the road since it happend because there is a horrie knocking nose when reved over 3000rpm and I don't know what damage it is causing.

I have had it down to my local garage and they hooked it up to there diagnostics machine. One fault code was saying that it was the fuel rail, I already know the sensor needs replacing with the updated wiring loom.

It came up with another fault code but they could not find out what it meant. They said they had found a forum online with people with the same problem and there sulution was to just start swapping things such as fuel pumps, injectors etc to see if it fixed it, non of which have fixed the problem.

I'm at a bit of an end now so I'm taking it into a landy specialist on Tuesday who has said he will be able to fix it. I just hope it's not going to cost me an arm and leg to get it done!

I will post an update on how it gets on.

Well I has been into the landy specialist and they have had on the diagnostics machine.

It came up with two fault codes. The first one was saying that the fuel rail pressure sensor wiring loom was at fault. They told me that it would £410 for the part and the labor to fit it (it is the upgraded wiring loom). I prob could of done it myself but I don't have the time to do it.

The second fault code was another issue, they could not diagnose the problem until the first fault code was rectified. Luckily fitting the new wiring loom sorted out both fault codes so no more exspensive bills ( fingers crosses )

If I remember correctly, when I bought the replacement loom for mine (last year), I seem to remember it was around £30. It took me less than a hour to fit .
It is not upgraded,as such, it is just not corroded.

I think that you should be checking and find out what they actually replaced !!

might be worth using this stuff on the connectors

Contralube Home Page

( available at 'maplin' shops )

i used it on all the sensor and injector connections ..
( vehicle had 37k miles on it when i did this )
all the connectors were clean ..
except for the fuel rail one .. which was showing signs of green corrosion ..
( cleaned off fine )

I had some cleaner from Maplins, it improved things for awhile, but the problems returned. Only cured, so far, by changing loom.

I have had a look for the part myself and I could only find the upgraded one. Landrover don't do the old one any more and the cheapest I found it was £250 for the parts.

I have read up on hear about doing it myself but everyone has said you should be competent working on car electrics and that ain't me, and as it is wired directly into the ecu I could see myself doing more damage than good.

I have tried using contact cleaner on it before and it only solved it for a few weeks before it started playing up again.

I will double check what they have actually done/ replaced when I pick it up on fri and I will ask for an itemised bill to see where all my money has gone. I have a feeling the the diagnostics will be a big part of the bill.

You do not need to be 'competent' to change the loom, it is just removing a couple of pins from a plug and pushing the new ones in, they just click into place. A hole needs to be drilled in the side of the box for a grommet for the lead to pass through, a good way of telling if they have fitted a new loom. All parts you need are in the kit
It does sound as they have changed the sensor as well, I seem to remember they are very expensive.
The detailed bill should identify what parts they used.

Well the damage has been done and the bill is paid.

He has fitted a new pressure sensor and the new wiring loom, they are all genuin landrover parts that he has used aswel. That came to over £300 and the rest of it was for the diagnostics and labour.

It's a bit of a hit to the old wallet but hopefully that will be it fault free for a few more years. I seem to be getting better mpg now that is done to : )

Hopefully you WILL RETURN AND LET US KNOW IF THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN SORTED AND ( ...oops) not be remembered/forgotten as a 6 post wonder .:high5:

Where can you buy the wiring loom and how much are they my landy has the eml flicking on and off, suspect it is intermitant caused by the wiring loom

hello all, I am new to this forum & to Freelander ownership & would welcome your help. My td4 was suffering from missfire & lumpy tickover. A local mobile land rover mechanic diagnosed fluctuating fuel pressure & sprayed the sensor connector with switch cleaner which has solved the problem. He told me about the repair loom so as an insurance policy I have obtained one. I would welcome detailed fitting instructions from anyone who has installed a repair loom.
Thanks
