Iv been doing a complete re build on my 300TDI disco over the last few weeks ( maybe months!) due to the crank key wearing badly... The engine returned from the engineers last week after having a new crank, shells, seals, and valves plus many other parts, in fact everything I touched has been replaced with new. So after fighting me all the way I managed to re fit the engine and start her up for the first time in a long while, alls well, or so I thought, I took it for a good run on Sunday and have now found oil around the joint beetween the engine and gear box, I first thought this may possibly be excess oil from inside the box as the old rear main seal was leaking, however I removed the wading plug and found fresh oil on top of the plug but none running out, Im now fearing the worst and think that the new seal is leaking, if so It looks like its box off again if it carrys on:mad:... Or would you speak to the engineering company to have it rectified if it does turn out to be the new seal failed?

If it's only a tiny bit I would monitor it carefully over the next week or so and see how it goes. It might be just a little oil that was applied when they put the new seal in?

I would also contact the engineering company immediately and explain the situation to them. See how they react.

Iv spoken with them today and they said the same, they said its possibly a mixture of oil used during build up and left over oil in the gear box... I hope thats the case, but they said if it carries on leaking they are more than happy to help:)

Well on the face of it that sounds fair enough doesn't it?

Good luck
