In the UK, thankfully.
Speaking to a mechanic today and I mentioned engine flushes etc. He advised 2 dishwasher tablets in the expansion tank and run it. This will unclog waterways bunged up by sludge from radweld stuff. Obviously the system will need drained again after as it has salt in them.:blabla:

My boss cleans his model plane engines in dishwasher tablets and hot water. Its quite impressive. I've seen knackered lumps of oil and crap go in a pot, and 20 min later literally a new looking engine comes out! They really look like you just bought them, and he sells them for a nice little profit on the side! And they are ali blocks, so i cant see an issue. Oh apart from if you leave in in there too long, the block will dissolve:jaw:, so don't leave it in there too long!

I put the valve cover in the dishwasher for a clean when the mrs was out and it did a fine job ! Unfortunately the dishwasher smelt like a mechanics overalls and I got busted !

A Chainsaw Forum I belong to one of the swedish members uses the kitchen dishwasher to clean all the chainsaws alloy and plastic parts, even his wife has been know to load the dishwasher with chainsaws parts under repair....

Lidl do really cheap ones and you'll get away with using 1/2 of one tablet.

What's important is the temperature cycle.

The original advice was cleaning the waterways inside an engine. The temperature will rise while the engine is running. I would run until hot, then some, then drain out and flush. If anyone tries this please let us know the results.:)

Used the stuff for cleaning out the sludge in a central heating system. Seemed to do the trick well enough.
