Hi fellas, I've got a slight misfire fault that sounds exactly like the one Rewmer had so I am going to give all the contacts/ connections on the engine ecu a clean. My question is, will I need a faultmate or similar to do any resetting if I remove it or will it just plug straight back in and work... Cheers...

Firstly, make sure you only use Switch or Contact Cleaner spray NOT WD40 type stuff. You can get it from Maplins.
Use a plastic toothbrush to scrub the contacts, not a wire brush. You can leave the battery connected as the spray is non conducting.
No, you will not need resetting with diagnostics unless you want the ECU setting back into adaptive leard mode.

If you do want the ECU resetting to Adaptive Learn Mode, it will take all of 10 minutes with diagnostics, nothing to remove, just plug in and do it. You could give Joe at Emmotts, Colne a call to see if he can do it, or there may be another forum member local to you with the software who can sort you out.

Cleaning the pins is quite easy, the plugs a little trickier. I used an oxy acetylene torch nozzle cleaner on mine. The corrosion was quite obvious when I took the ecu out.

Well removed the ECM and it was spotless. Gave it a good clean anyway but no difference. So now I've tried the £3 fix I'll have to move on to the more expensive. Done the plugs and leads, checked the Maf, next stop new coil pack. Is it a real pig to fit, looks like you have to remove the air intake manifold. Should be fun with all the LPG pipes routed over the top of it. Ah well, once more into the breach my friends!!!

You may have to take it up a notch if the coils dont fix it. Start looking at the signal from the crank position sensor and the cam position sensor to make sure they are giving correct, regular pulses. You will benefit from an oscilloscope though.

Hi fellas. Sorry been doing some 14 hour night shifts so a bit buggered. Thanks Irishrover and Rewmer. I'll get hold of a compression tester and try to do that at some point over the next few days. I take it Irishrover you might be thinking duff valve? Easy check before I start spending for fun. Thanks, keep you posted...

Might be worth looking at that option also.:)
