Happy Sunday all,

I have just unplugged the rf receiver on my P38 as I think this is causing my battery drain. However when I go to start the car I get engine disabled. Is this normal!. On Plugging it back in all works again. Help please!

think you might have unplugged the wrong wire. just remove the blue one (i think) and try it again

Yup,
try disconnecting the single, blue wire that runs from the unit up to the window. This is the aerial connector.

I was advised to disconnect the whole unit. The drivers door central locking has never worked off the remote, but does off the key. I was led to believe that the rf receiver would keep sending signals to the BECM as there is something up with the central locking on this door. Would simply disconnecting the antenna resolve this?

Yeah but if you unplug the lot the car won't work. Just the blue will do it. You need a new door lock.

MY96 shouldnt have friendly resync. So If you disconnect the RF receiver and then enter the EKA code the vehicle should start then..But if the switch in the door fails then you will have an issue.Always best to have a working FOB and mechanical key with working door switches as they are a backup for one another.
