Engine Disabled on display

Hi, Im considering buying a P38 with a fault showing!!!!!!!!!!!The reason for buying it, is to use the engine in mine (slipped liner) Its had a new engine fitted last year but would be buying it without hearing engine running. Could anybody give me crash course on why!!! Engine Disabled would appear!!!!! what would be the route to cure the problem. Colin

Its the imobiliser, locking then unlocking should clear the message or a eka code in the lock but if your taking the engine out to put in your vehicle it should not be a problem, i have had my P38 for 6 years so i know a bit about them but maybe someone can answer your question better than me

basicly the engine is imobilised,either the button on the fob needs pressing,the eka code entering,or if it,s the gems ecu system,it may have lost sync with it,s security code,

had the engine disabled problem last weekend, had to re-sync the key with the car as loads of stray signals fooked it up!!! have a look on here for re-syncing the key, i had to put it in the drivers door and unlock then press the unlock button then engine started first time.

Colin, if the key knob does not work for some reason and you need to unlock manually:
you use the key on the drivers door to unlock the engine using the eka code. Make sure you turn the key to the directions requested fast without stopping between numbers, i.e. if the code is 223 turn the key to the right four times, you shall see the indicators start flashing and while this happens, turn twice right bring the key each time to the starting posistion, then without stopping twice left and then three times to the right. You need to be fast and precise.
If you enter it correctly the message should go away.
You may encounter the problem if the car is parked close to an Antenna that affects the key working properly. The manual was should cure it.

Gavbriggs, is there another way of getting hold of the eka code as i have lost mine and dont have alot of time to go down the dealers at the moment, otherwise ive got to send the missis down tomorrow and try and get her to explain to them its mine but shes doing my donkey work for me!!!

you can only get it from the database so unfortunately you need to contact them.


just imagine though if you were a local garage or tyre fitter and you were employed to take off the battery and replace it with a new one but the customer doesnt have the eka with him. think how the conversation would go and what the outcome might be!!!!

a big FOOK off and dont come back till you have got the code!!!!

Hi, Apparantly the Range Rover was working fine until this fault appeared, this was last year (November) his mechanic said he couldnt solve it, without the engine running, i have sinced been told that the engine was replaced in August 2008 ( a 1995 Discovery all gaskets replaced) it then needed another head-gasket doing in October (done by a stealer) then the fault appears in November, stood on his drive since then, it has MOT until August 2009. Does this have anything to do with the fault on display, you all seem to be in agreement that its eka code which shouldnt be a problem, or if the ECU needs re-doing is this a testbook job for a local stealer.
