Hi all,

I'm about to venture into doing an engine swap from a 3.9 carbed V8 to an Isuzu 3.1 TD, retaining the V8's autobox.

The current box seems to always shift at quite low revs, no matter what I do with the kickdown cable (though the kickdown is definately working).

Is there any way for me to check if the internals of the box are TDI or V8 spec, is there a code on the outside of the box or anything?

Assuming it's a V8 box, I've read the gearing will be horrid for a diesel. I've seen mention of changing the valve block for a TDI one, but can't find info on doing this.

Would anyone be able to help? If anyone has any other info, or parts, or even a 3.1TD or similar that would be of use, please also get in touch!

I plan to do a full build thread to make a 'bible' of how it's done. It'll be getting done properly, that's for sure!

Cheers, James

valve blocks are coded ,and is quite an easy job to swap one ,just need a t27 torx bit once sump is off ,internals are the same

Thanks very much for that, just the answer I was hoping for!
I'm guessing Ashcroft transmissions or someone would be best to supply a TDi spec one? I would have the whole box rebuilt but I know it's a good box and I'm restricted on time right now!

Thanks, James

Had a look on Ebay for one and couldn't see any, though I could find whole boxes for not that much. Any ideas on where to source one? Is there anywhere to find the codes?

Thanks for all the help,

James
