engine change

right guys.i have sourced a new engine.h/g done,timing done,new tensioner. all i have to do is fit it..dont suppose any of you mechanic types will give me a hand.i will pay you for your help obviously.im plannin g on getting an engine hoist next sat for the day.

That is a long shot.

Especially as you don't say what type of engine it is, and where it is, and what type of coffee, tea, beer, cake and biscuits you will provide.

oh yeah lol sorry,its a 1.8 k series.i would do it myself but not quite sure what im doing.tea and coffee is always on tap but beer..hmmm cant encourage drink driving haha..

oh and im in huddersfield

You're a bit far from me, otherwise I'd give you a hand.
The 1.8 K is easy to do single handed. The V6 is the worst engine to change, especially if you're on your own, like I was when I changed mine!

I'm just a little un sure... Can't find a decent blow by blow description on Internet...

Changing an engine is a bit daunting the first time you do it, you need to be methodical and keep all the nuts and bolts in labelled containers. Otherwise you will be spending more time looking for a missing bolt or two than actually doing the transplant. Also, allow at least twice as much time as you expect.

The first engine change I did was on a Austin Princess. It took me a day to get it out and a day to put the replacement in. My only cock-up was I forgot to reconnect the electric fan, a mistake I discovered while sat in traffic on the M5 on our way to Cornwall. Ive done about half a dozen engines since, the last one was a Lancia Beta coupe, that also took two days but it included getting the replacement engine out of the donor car. I haven't gotten faster at it, just more careful.

I can take an engine out of my Hillman Avenger in about 2 hours, but it's a very simple job with not more than 30 nuts or bolts to undo.

It took me about 5 hours to remove the engine from my V6 Freelander, which has loads more stuff to remove, like the IRD support bracket.
Refitting is just a reversal of the removal process.

I took the engine/gearbox/ird out of ma hippo. Car up engine down. Trolleys jumped out the way at the last second and it all landed ont floor. Took 3 hours messing about to get it int garage 10 foot away.

Take lots of pic's while taking yer ole engine out to help remember where everything went.

The only bit I'm worried about is the gearbox and drive shafts....

what is it about the gearbox and driveshafts that has you worriedly?

You can leave them alone. Just support the gearing securely, so it can't fall when the engine comes away from the ball housing.

Removing them. Just never done it before

I had a VW beetle that I put rings and shells in but failed to tighten up the flywheel properly. When that came loose I dropped the engine out again on my own in 17 minutes - those were the days - simple stuff
