Sorry to hear this but understood.. I would suggest an Audi A4/A6 quattro Avant TDi. Should do everything you want and be economical. If you still want the space I'd wholeheartedly recommend a Volvo XC90 with the D5 engine. Mine was great and still got 44mpg without trying.

Good choices...just don't go fancy and sporty my old weekend runaround tt v6 struggled to get more than 7 mpg yes thats right 7 mpg when you floored it ....normal running just teasing the throttle would give between 20 - 24mpg.
Since then bought a new kawasaki for speed and a retuned 206 gti 180 pushing 220 bhp..........."drives **** round town though although averages 35mpg with mixed driving.

Some interesting ideas there guys.

Audi A4/A6 - possible

Volvo - XC90 - must check on dealerships/workshops in South-East Europe.

Škoda Octavia - possible

Audi tt V6 - too thirsty for me by far. LOL

Peugeot 206 GTi - wow

Kawasaki - dear dear dear

Food for thought indeed. ;)

Did you see my PM SV?

Our family car is a 2ltr VW Passat Estate on a 59 plate.
Town driving is approx 45mpg and on a run about 58mpg.

Still have the Freebie for fun though!

Skoda Octavia Scout 4x4 or VW T5 Syncro?

Watch out for oil pump drive problems on the earlier Passat 2.0lt Tdi around 07 plate.

Skoda has a good forum Briskoda.net.

Hands on members just like Landyzone.

Or even a Yeti.

I'm a member of Briskoda. One of the best forums I have come across.

The Haldex equipped Skoda's are excellent. Highly recommended. Really wanted the Superb V6 auto 4x4, but couldn't afford the petrol bill

Almost any Skoda is excellent these days, and has been for many years. I have had 2-an Octavia Estate L&K 2.0 PD140 TDI DSG and a Yeti Elegance CR140 DSG 4x4. Great cars. The Yeti was my favourite. Sold it to get rid of monthly repayments.

Vw T5 4motion- my next T5 Van will have this and a lift... they're bloody amazing all things considered. Loads more carrying space than a Freelander and more economical too if it's a newer 2L one...

If you weren't worried about age, these are seriously cool..

Yes - those are 'cool'.:)

You can tell it's the 4x4 because of the raised suspension.

I see loads exactly like that in Austria - the Austrian army use them - they had them in Kosovo for example.

Lots of farmers in the Alps have bought them ex-army in khaki.
