Coil pack changed and it's on 8 cylinders again :D:D

Got to get all the LPG stuff back on and get coolant filled, but looks OK.

Suspect it's a connection on the drive pins, all resistances look good on our Fluke meter.

Surprised you can't get into the supermarkets, drop the trailer in the parking and then fill up with GPL. We see some big campers with cars on trailers that do just that.
I don't use GPL so I have never checked, but I don't think the stuff is available when the station is unmanned anywhere, down to fire risk I guess.
Only the bigger supermarkets round us have GPL and parking is never a problem.
 
Most that we have seen are a tight squeeze for the Discovery, impossible for the trailer, but we have found a couple that will let us in.

Intermarche in Orange is one that is a no-no, but where we are now there is a GPL station where the village road joins the main Toul-Nancy road and that is fine.

Carrefour don't seem to have GPL, at least not at the one we have been to (Orange)

From here back to Duerne in Holland we have motorway/dual-carriageways with decent filling stations.

We will fill both Discoveries at the 'local' site before heading back on Sunday to collect the engines, ferry is Tuesday lunchtime, home abour 10.35 Tuesday evening.

Haven't totalled the costs of fuel yet, but it will be a significant amount for the 19 days, mileage is going to be 1600 or so, all towing in my case.

No 100 octane in France, 98 is the best. Supermarkets are generally 10 cents a litre cheaper than petrol stations and 20 to 30 cents a litre cheaper than motorway stations. Big difference over 2000 kilometres.
 
Our last full day in France, we leave tomorrow to go back to Deurne in Holland to collect the engines and the other trailer, then after a drive up to Hook of Holland we stay at the site in Monster for one night and then toodle round the corner to the ferry in the morning.

Philip's D2 V8 going OK now, hope that will be the last of the issues with it.

While some supermarket prices are cheaper, it's a real pain to get into some of them when they are in towns, their approach roads are stupidly small in some cases.

Although fuel is probably the single largest expense on the trip with two V8's, it hasn't been critically so and we factored it in before making the trip.

I've got to grease the front prop today and check over the undergear on the trailer.

Shell V Power is 100, at least it was last time I bought some - hence the Shell App :)

Even if I was running 98, I'd still be looking for BP over supermarkets. Yes, the per litre price is lower, but so are the kilometres per litre. It works out more expensive using the cheaper fuel.

According to the pumps I've seen it complies with the EU standard of 98.
I've never found any difference in MPG between French supermarket fuel and the expensive branded stuff.
 
Up in Mook, Netherlands tonight, had a very quiet drive up, Sunday is the best day to travel in Europe, all the trucks are parked up, you see them in their hordes in the services, waiting to get back out on the roads.

LPG connector in Luxembourg was the screw-in type, first we had seen. Fortunately the cashier had a loan adaptor in three flavours, with your passport as security.

There is a big 100km stretch of the E25 in Belgium which has no services, so be careful, easy to run out of fuel.

The road works we had got caught up in going through Maastricht in the way down were running freely and just a minor inconvenience.

Took us about 6 hours including fuel stops and collecting the engines, we averaged a bit over 50mph excluding the engine collection.

We are here for two nights, ferry goes 2pm on Tuesday so we'll be leaving here early Tuesday morning. Both Discos running well, no more ignition issues on Philips V8.

I always get best mpg in France,whether it is the better roads,better fuel or longer driving distances.Seen no difference between supermarket fuel and regular pump fuel(both petrol and diesel).Over here there seems a marked difference.
French diesel has a higher content of biodiesel so will have a higher cetane number anyway.
A lot of people think it is the bio in supermarket fuel over here causing a drop in performance,but more likely the bunker oil the fuel is based on and then the bio ,trys to pull the cetane value up.
 
I'm on petrol, and I certainly see a difference in Switzerland. It's possible that the French make sure all fuel is the same, whether it's from a supermarket or a branded filling station (it would fit with the philosophy of Egalité), but TBH I drive so rarely in France that I'd rather not take the risk finding out.

Next year's trip already planned, Philip is going to finish his Sankey wide-track conversion to camping trailer (chassis extension etc etc) and he is coming along but going further down south while we will probably base ourselves at Villey Le Sec for a couple of weeks and just soak up the sun :D:D

It was a great break and we all enjoyed it, first time in France for us two, Philip has done Nice and Monaco in his 88" Series 3, twice.
