Emergency battery booster packs (Good/Bad?)

As so many of the LR family of motors seem to leak battery-power like a sieve when parked up for any amount of time, what's the consensus on the small Li-On or Li-Po battery "Booster/Starter" rescue packs?

Seems like 70 notes gets you a 1500A (peak) jump-starter.

Any experience? Tales of success/Woe to share, Anyone?

Mine is great. Jumped about 10 times and still on 60% charge. Can charge devices off of it too.

Timely thread - I've got an old Saab convertible that sits around for weeks at a time and I was wondering if there was a product out there that might help the old starter battery.

Ours has been a little gem this winter

That's the difference, yours need a booster after sitting around for weeks whereas the modern expensive stuff needs it after a few days

More than an old pensioner like me can spring for, but its good to know these things do what they say.
I shall probably go for a cheaper sub-£100 booster for large Petrol engine'd vehicles. I know I am leaving the P38 parked up in a car-park while I go to Holland in June. The last thing I need is to come back to a flat battery and a dead car.

If you're leaving her for a good while a battery maintainer would probably suit your needs better than a jump starting thingy...

Ctek do a good maintainer and charger it'll also "condition" and rejuvenate ya batteries if required..

But having said that you can get ones for £30 ctek is £100 plus last I checked.

Good investment again though

Hmmm...... where do they plug in at the car park at Harwich ferry Terminal car-park I wonder.
I have a CTEK (7Amp) charger, its brilliant, well worth the £114 I paid.

I have tried keeping it topped-up with a solar panel but there is not enough Sun it seems and the Wattage of the panel isn't enough.
As it was advertised expressly for "topping up batteries in boats/caravans/cars" it was bit disappointing. Also, it was a real clutter and in the way most of the time.

Probably need at least a 25w solar panel to do anything with the few hours of sun we get. The issue is size

So good I bought two at £63.20 each with a Halfords trade card, of course due to the higher compression of a Diesel engine, diesel owners are advised to get the more powerful and more expensive item which is £99 before discount, (£79.20 with card).

Of course these items are every where now, but some do have issues and with some your lucky if they don’t, that’s why I popped in at Halfords, and any issues within the warranty period... just return for a replacement.

I like the li-ion ones because they are easier to carry around than the lead acid ones and as said can be used for charging phones, running laptops etc. Had a very powerful afterpartz one which my daughter nicked , it was better at cranking the series diesel than the lead acid ones I have. I now have a goo loo one which is almost as powerful as the afterpartz one, the afterpartz being no loner available.

some of them are hit and miss from the reviews, I did try a "life" one which started smoking heavily whilst on charge. so that went in the bin.

but for a big engine with a totally dead battery I find the Clarke lead acid one is the best. not sure which one I have, it is so old most of the labels are faded or gone. it is the biggest one they do aa bloke who once jumped me had one so I figured they were good. Expensive though, around the £150 mark iirc.

for cars that aren't being used for weeks - apart from the series which can go for months - I give them a weekly or two weekly boost with a ctek 5a charger conditioner, or take the battery out and leave it in the garage connected to a maintenance charger, bought a couple from halfords over 20 years ago, still going strong.

any car of ours that is out on the road has a jump starter (lead acid, bought before the li ion ones came out) in the boot. series is the only one with an li charger - due to the low security and ease of seeing in the vehicle - which my daughter uses, she takes the charger with her when she gets out.

+1 for the Genius GB40 , started my old volvo V40 with a mitsubushi lump in it . did 6 times and still @ 80% . Never ever thought it would power the interior light .

My mate has a ravpower one and demonstrated it to me on his Renault master 2.5d with no battery fitted he just connected it up and it started no issue at tall, great piece of kit I am going to get one
