theres a gremlin in me series lectrickery:mad: first the heater and dash light switches died, then the dash light started working again but now me headlight switch is having a funny five and only works when it wants to, but when it's not working the full beam light is on on the dash:confused: help!!! i don't understand lectrickery:eek:

Definitely sounds like a dodgy earth, but I've no idea where the earth points are on a series, they'll want cleaning up and bolting back down

OK, it's not the fusebox 'cos the lighting isn't fused. If the main beam warning light is on but the lights are off then current is making it through the lighting switch and the main/dip switch on the stalk (I presume that's your S3 in your sig). So EITHER both headlamp earth connections have gone (a bit unlikely, but hey, its a landy) OR the wiring to the headlamps has failed before it splits into left and right. My guess would be the double bullet connector which is somewhere under the wing or behind the radiator grille.
Follow the blue and white wire back from the RH headlight to find it.

hmmmm could be fun, theres loads of random wiring on pig from where someone fitted a stereo ( ripped that out, couldn't hear it anyway) and god knows what else:rolleyes:

That's why I suggested starting at the headlight and not in the rats nest that's behind the dash!

had a similar problem on my 2a which turned out to be the earth connection behind the dash ,the nut had almost come off allowing the cables to move so sometimes they made a connection and other times not

The only thing earthed behind the dash on a S3 is the panel illumination and indicator repeaters. Lack of panel lights might be poor earth but I've had to replace the switch recently. Come to think of it I've changed the main lighting switch and indicator stalk in recent years too. One of the problems with intermittent problems like this is they might not have a single cause.
I'm not sure where the heater motor is fed from 'cos it seems to have been missed off the wiring diagram!
