Hi,
Apologies if in the wrong forum, tried the "common faults" forum but could not find the "new thread" button.

I'm trying to diagnose an issue with my towing electrics. The indicators work but nothing else does. I seem to be getting about 4v at the side lights, 6v at the brake lights. All other lights on the vehicle work, it's just the towing electrics:

I have:
- installed a new towing socket
- removed, cleaned and re-bolted the main battery ground to the chassis next to the transmission casing
- run a ground lead direct from the battery to negate a grounding issue
- checked for any connectors at the rear but the wiring loom seems to go direct into the chassis with no connector blocks at the rear of the vehicle.

Any ideas on how I can get my tail lights working?

I've got a 300 but it shouldn't be to different, if you open the rear door on the right hand side at the back just above the seat box where the rear door wiring enters the chassis there is a small triangular panel held on with a couple of screws. Under that cover are some bullet connector plug and sockets, that is where the standard landy trailer wiring connects to the main harness.

Thanks kwakerman... just spent an hour under the rear wheel arch. Some muppet had connected the towing electrics... and I kid you not... by taking a feed off the lighting ring and literally twisting the wires together and wrapping in insulation tape... needless to say the wires were all corroded and I'm surprised 4v was getting through never mind 12v .

All fixed and we are now set to go on holiday!
